The remains of the week

The rest of this week has seen the usual variety of activities. More carving with Roger. I appreciate his efforts, I really do, but he managed to avoid sweeping this gubbins up...
Drawing and painting classes on Saturday all centred around this bunch of flowers- it's interesting using the same staring point for classes of all ages, from five year olds through to the retired.
Life drawing gave me an opportunity to make a couple of portraits- the pencil sketch is of our newest model, Jenny. A great model who I can't wait to draw again- a very strong face for portraits. The painting's of Kaye, another favourite of ours.

Buzzzzzzzzz.

Another day working on the sculptures for Kayes Millennium Green. This photo was taken by Roger, a wood carver who is interested in the project and is kindly giving his time to help. I'll post a pic of him soon. The project was funded by the Arts Council. Volunteers (with a notional intrinsic value attached to their time) are a very good way of matching the funding being requested. I read a brief yesterday which called this 'sweat equity'. Nice.

If you're a health and safety officer, don't bother to get in touch.

Old films

Here's a couple of videos I've put on youtube to link to my website. One is me making a self portrait just before running a portraiture class, so I could easily show the longer processes involved in drawing. The other is me making a wood carving, now untouched for over a year but sitting patiently in the studio waiting for me to return to it. (which I will...)

Press coverage

Blowing my own trumpet. Huddersfield Daily Examiner yesterday.

A man from the Arts Council told me last night he'd enjoyed the trumpet. I immediately asked him for a grant.

Kayes Millenium Green commssion finally starts.

I've been waiting for things to calm down a bit before I could make a start on the commission for Kayes Millenium Green in Clayton West (sounds like a cowboy, but it is a place). Wood supplied by Adam at Kirklees Tree Works

I did some workshops with the kids from Kayes First School whereby they drew and made clay sculptures of insects/mini-beasts. I'm being commissioned to make wood carvings from them which will be installed in the trees of Kayes Millenium Green. I'll keep blogging the progress.

Whew!

The horn at the woods needed some attention this morning. I met a lovely lady called Sandie walking her dog and she kindly took some snaps for me. Thanks Sandie.

Kendal Mint Cake...

Alright, it's tenuous, but we just had a model doing a great job for us on Monday. Half time cuppa and one of the students got chatting to him- turns out he's from Kendal! Great guy, did an excellent job and we're having him back. I'm not paying his mileage though.

Here's a link to his blog, with pictures from said class.

Art Market

I just took part in the art Market with Judith Brown, and Kay modelling. We set up an art studio in the 10X4 ft market pitch and I made a clay portrait whist Judith made drawings. People seemed very interested in this and I had a few enquiries about the clay modelling classes I do, details on my website: jamiefrost.com

We're looking at other venues to take this kind of art- Judith made the point that we could make a show which is more of a performance and less of a demonstration. Exciting times.
