Another quick round-up of my latest efforts. starting with a recently completed den project in a local junior school. The den comprises two structures connected by a crawl tunnel. Later the students will plant willow and climbers around the den to encourage it to be transformed into a living structure and be enjoyed indefinitely. A thoroughly enjoyable project.

Next, a Yorkshire rose I was asked to carve into a timber framed building being assembled by York Carpentry in Horbury:

also still on the go is the portrait of J:

We decided to do some clay modelling in the Monday evening life class:

and my self portrait came back from London on Tuesday, only to be preselected for the Threadneedle Prize exhibition on Wednesday, so it's been packaged up and subtly labelled for it's journey back to the big smoke...

Just a couple of things- some footage of me carving the hand- the write-up on youtube explains it. I can't actually embed it in this post, which I think might be because I had my radio on and it's detected some copyrighted music. Heres a link:

Also, Yorkshire Life Magazine have written a feature on Denby Dale and included some pictures of my painting class- I'll have to take it in and show them tomorrow.

It's the season for exhibitions and I'm pleased to inform you about a few that I've got coming up- I hope you get to see some of them.

I'm showing at the Society of Portrait Sculptors' annual exhibition in Cork Street in London. I'm really pleased and fortunate to be selected again after winning the Talos award in 2010 for the best work by a non-member newcomer. The show is open for a week, from the 14th -19th May. Opening times vary slightly so follow the link for these:http://www.portrait-sculpture.org/index.php

In August I've been invited to be part of a new and exciting sculpture trail in Doddington Hall and Gardens in Lincolnshire. I've worked with the organiser before and it's already shaping up into an impressive event, hosted at the most unique of venues- a beautiful Elizabethan home completed in 1600 which has hardly been altered since and has never been sold. This link should give you a taster: http://www.doddingtonhall.com/sculpture/

I'm also exhibiting locally this summer. I'll be showing new bronze figures and other works at the Sculpture Lounge Studios as part of the Holmfirth Artweek fringe from 1st-7th July: http://www.holmfirthartweek.org.uk/

I've also just been asked to demonstrate some epic-scale drawing for the Art Market in Holmfirth on 24th june. The website for this event is here: http://www.artmarkets.co.uk/   You can see a time-lapse video of me making a similar huge charcoal work on youtube:http://artistjamiefrost.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/laocoon-drawingm4v.html

These large drawings will form part of an exhibition in October, but I'll let you know about that later. To get regular updates about other things I'm engaged in and to gain an insight into my working practices, check out all the links below.

I think that's it.

The waxes have been taken to the foundry- give it a couple of months and I should be able to post the final results. I hope to be able to offer these for sale during Holmfirth Art Week in July, and also at the sculpture show at Doddington Hall in Lincolnshire in August. More details on these soon.

Hello,

I've been modelling some little wax figures for casting into bronze- watch this video to see one in action:

Here's a picture of the result, not quite finished here- a bit of a fat wrist and some other minor tweaks required.

There's also been a tiny picture of me in Yorkshire Life magazine. I'm working with the Friends of Beaumont Park and Moor End Academy to make some sculptures in the coming year. Watch this space.

Sculpture classes

Hello,

I am now taking bookings for the sculpture classes that I run here at the studio:

Sculpture Wednesdays (new structure for carving classes)- Those of you particularly interested in carving either wood or stone should note that I have tried to make the times that these subjects are taught a bit more flexible. Wednesday is now 'sculpture day'. The long-running Thursday afternoon wood carving class has moved to Wednesday at a later time of 4.00-6.00. Then, almost immediately after at 6.30, we have two hours of a new sculpture class where students can carve either wood or stone. These new classes will re-commence on next Wednesday, the 2nd May. Prices including tools and materials remain at £150 per ten week term.

If you would like to book a place or find out a bit more, please reply by e-mail, or by calling or texting 07842 111 688
