Kayes Millenium Green finished- now go see 'em!
Apologies for a belated post (I've had a stinking cold). The sculptures WERE installed in time on the green and we did have a celebration day. All the children and many parents attended. Entertainment and ribbon-cutting services were provided by one of the parents, also an entertainer/magician. We were blessed with excellent weather, if a little chilly, and I'm pleased to say the youngsters seemed to think we'd done their ideas justice. After walking the green and finding all the sculptures we retired to the school for refreshments, kindly provided by Beanie's Bistro at Springfield Mill in Denby Dale and The Daisy Tea House in Mapplewell (lovely fairy cakes)
Now it's done, please take the opportunity to visit Kaye's Millenium Green in Clayton West and see all eight of the sculptures that the children of Kayes First and Nursery School have worked on.

I'd like to take this one last opportunity to thank Roger, Rose, Chris, Ewen, Ruby, Kirsty and all the staff at the school who also made this possible. Last but certainly not least, many thanks to all the children who contributed so enthusiastically.

Installation continues despite the weather. Dedication's what you need.
I am blogging from the warmth of my home after a cold, windy and wet day installing the first leggy bug. All went well with Chris Bonham as my wing man again but there wasn't enough time to hang a second one. We've found our groove and I've had a "duh!" moment regarding the design of the legs which should make things even easier on Wednesday.
At least the cows have gone now- they caused all manner of delay and worry last week. And they slobbered all over my car windows.
We're getting geared up for the celebration. One of the parents from the school is a magician and he'll be unveiling- I'll let you know more as soon as I can. To be sure of an invite submit you're email at the top of this blog.
Special thanks to Jenny Ashley for submitting some excellent pictures of work in progress- some of which are here.
Thanks then.

And they're up.
The sculptures for Kaye's Millenium Green are now starting to be installed. A parent from the school has been helping me out this week. He's a methodical man which makes him an ideal fella to tie your knots and hold the ladder. It also makes him an excellent picture framer- see him at Springfield Hobbies.
Three down with only minor problems- the cows took a great interest in the ladder sometimes.
We're looking at launching the project on Friday the fourteenth of October. Watch this space for a press release, hope to see you there.

Kaye's Day two.
Back to Kaye's today to finish painting the different bits of the insect sculptures. It's a bit of a whirlwind of decision making and frantic painting, and the kids have responded amazingly. The final outcome is far busier and has a celebratory feel that I hadn't expected- they remind me of Easter eggs, or Giles Brandreth's sweaters. Excellent.
'Scuse the quality of the pics- they were taken in Shiela's shed.

Kaye's again again again again..
Phew!
Monday saw the youngsters visiting the willow dome at the school in bin-liner clad droves. they did a fantastic job of putting down all the base colours AND most importantly not getting any of the legs mixed up.
Tomorrow the details and patterns go onto the sculptures and we're ready to install. Here's praying for good weather- the willow dome is an ideal place to work. Thanks to Angie and Headteacher for preparing the space and the kids so well.
